Hi Mini,

Sorry for the delay. We checked with our Visa Support Department and there's no one they can recommend at this point in time.

Sorry we couldn't be more help.

Aloha,

hey adam g...thanks for being honest. i honestly think we have all been scammed in one form or another. it is just the pitfalls of online dating. i have been a victim also but not in the same manner or amount as you. i met someone online on cb and sent her a plane ticket to meet me in manila. this was my second trip there being my first was on the way to vietnam in the early 70's. no met me and i was a little lost and depressed. she couldn't get the refund for the plane ticket since i had purchased it with a credit card here in hawaii. i got my money back but was stuck in manila until my flight back. you know, i had a really good time in manila. met some really nice and friendly people and hung out in most of the girlie bars which was fun. i have more respect for the women in those bars than the scammers online. at least with the bargirls, you got what you paid for. i am a firm believer that if the girls online tell you they love you after a few chats, signals should go off. if she comes up with a sob story, regardless of the subject and she needs help for rent, utilities, she is hungry and no money for food, schooling for her or siblings, medical bills, funerals, her low wages, whatever, signals should go off. i personally watched a couple of girls in a internet cafe in a mall, work several men at the same time chatting on yahoo. just watch the yahoo chat screen on the bottom, it will always tell you if she is typing a message. if you don't receive this message or for the period of time she is typing and you get a three short words, signals should go off. or if you are on cam with her and she is typing away but you don't get the message, signals should go off. if she is hesitant about appearing on a cam or she tells you webcams are illegal in her town, signals should go off. if they know about western union money grams, signals should go off. the scammers will always work more than one guy at a time. be careful too of the cops in the phil. they are some of the most corrupt people around. i have alot of stories since i have been to the phil several times. mostly to surf at a place called cloud nine plus i am japanese/hawaiian mix so my asian looks does not attract attention like a caucasian man. so my best advice is be careful and if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is and never ever send money. the true scammer will not chat with you after you deny them this and a true filipina will never ever ask you for money. i still search for a woman but now i know all the tricks scammers use. my way of getting back at girls who ask for money is this, i say ok, tell them to wait a minute while i send them a western union money gram. then i give them a fake mtcn number and send them on there way....good luck guys and be careful.

Can I suggest what is helpful for the men looking here? (I think it works for women looking for men also, but I do not feel uqualified to speak for them).

1. A number of photographs
2. At least one close up, at least one full body
3. Nothing overtly sexual (in case you are getting the wrong idea here)
4. Photographs showing you in a variety of home and, if possible, work situations. This helps stop scammers, who often have very limited photographic availability.
5. No sunglasses! They may look cool or feel cool to wear, but honestly dont help in a profile.
6. Please no photographs over say 2 or 3 years old. We almost all looked better 10-20 years ago, but it's misleading to show them now.

A statement that no money will be requested (or sent) also helps, Scammers seem to come basically in 2 forms- the 'Russian' style, emails only and some model photos, but they will never webcam as there is usually no lady to talk to- and the 'local' style- attractive young ladies (often early- mid 20s) who will chat on webcam and are who they say they are- but very quickly comes the sob story and request for money.

Fundamentally, it's all about honesty, but it's a minefield out thereand seems to be getting worse.

Hello to interested Philippenes travelers. I met a very unique lady on cb in September of 2008. I went to the Philippines in July, 2009 to meet her and see the Philippines for the forst time. I flew into Manila and met her there. We stayed in Manila for a few then flew to Davao and stayed a couple of days. We then rented a van and traveled 5 hours to her family's home, where i stayed for 3 weeks. We traveled by van, back to Davao and stayed a couple more nights before I returned to the US. I had no problems and the people were very freindly and anxious to meet and talk. I traveled around with her and some of her relatives most of the time. There are deffinatly places you do not want be, or go, same as here in the US. I suggest going and use common sense when it comes to places that you could find trouble. There are many honest and freindly people that will gladly escort you, guide you, and even educate you on their beautiful country. You will see everything from rich to poor. You will see the beauty and the beast, but you will enjoy your visit and will want to return again, to see what you didn't get to. Hope this will ease your mind.
